It has been a while since I blogged but here goes today September 10, 2008
The Zachary School System fared very well during Hurricane Gustav. Minor damage at most schools, but we were able to make repairs last week. We are very grateful to be able to start school again this past Monday. Many schools systems are still not up and running. We have the most awesome staff who came up to work during difficult times, even when they did not have all the conveniences at their own home. I am proud of all of our employees. Hear this amazing statistic-- On the first day back from Gustav the Zachary Schools averaged 93.5% attendance. Our students want to be here and they get the job done. I want to thank the City of Zachary, the Police Dept. and the Fire Dept. for their their help during this crisis. Mayor Martinez communicated with me daily to help the schools reopen. I appreciate that and I know the school board does also. In a few minutes at 11 am I will have another conference with Paul Pastorek, State Superintendent, and he will update us on all the school situations across the state. Have a good day.
