Overview of the Zachary Community School District

The Zachary Community School District has been in operation since 2003 and has been recognized as the top performing district since 2005.   Although growing at a faster rate than any district in the state, the Zachary Community School District has maintained high standards of excellence in the areas of academics, athletics, community service and extracurricular activities. Our educational program has allowed our students to think beyond the boundaries of Zachary to maximize the potential of each student.

The Zachary Community School District was carved out of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System by the approval of the state legislature and a statewide election. In 2003-2004, the district began its first school year of operation. The School District extends to the East Baton Rouge Parish line in the North, the Mississippi River in the West, the Comite River in the East, and South to Baker.

In the Zachary Community School District, every decision is guided by a student-centered philosophy and our core values. The partnership between the community, parents and the school district has resulted in unprecedented student achievement on a national level. Zachary Schools work to maximize the potential of each student through an academic atmosphere, quality educators, and a diverse, rigorous curriculum.

The Zachary Community School District has seven schools – Zachary Early Learning Center (PreK), Northwestern Elementary (K), Rollins Place Elementary (1st- 2nd), Zachary Elementary (3rd-4th), Copper Mill Elementary (5th-6th), Northwestern Middle (7th-8th),  and Zachary High (9th-12th).  The Zachary Community School District follows the grade cluster approach. An extensive PreKindergarten program provides our students with a strong foundation. Teachers then build upon this with a rigorous curriculum that challenges students to develop critical thinking skills while providing them with meaningful opportunities for hands-on exploration.
